The Bootlace Magician

Hi! Have you ever missed someone? I have! While I was at camp, I really missed my mama and daddy! Well, the main character of this book, Micah, misses his grandfather who has passed away, and his best friend, Jenny. He is living at Circus Mirandus now, and you’re never allowed to visit the circus twice, unless you work there like Micah.

Micah is very lonely and he wants a friend, so he starts trying to make friends with an idea named Fish. He is feeding it knots so it can know all about what’s going on at Circus Mirandus. Suddenly, one day a unicorn appears and Micah is taken in to take care of it. Unicorns are very protective animals and Micah wonders why they would just leave little baby Terp all alone. Eventually he realizes that her pack must have been scared of something and decided to leave her there so she wouldn’t be in danger. Micah has a theory about what scared them. He thinks that his great-grandmother Victoria is raising a dragon. Dragons need lots of food to grow, and if they get enough food, they can become very dangerous. However, only magical things can feed them, and unicorns are chock-full of magic!

Micah tries to explain his theory to the Lightbender, his guardian, but he doesn’t believe Micah. He says that dragons are too small to grow to the size where they can harm Circus Mirandus. However, after an accident that proves that Micah’s getting stronger in his power, there’s no doubt that Victoria is behind it!

During the accident, Micah was scared, so he found a land full of golden thread. This may sound strange, but it was really an update to unlocking Micah’s full power. He untied one of the golden threads and BANG! Porter’s door came crashing down! Porter is a travel magician, and when he sets up a door, it leads to another place in the world. Meanwhile, Victoria was still out there feeding her dragon to make it bigger and stronger.

Wil Micah be able to save Circus Mirandus, or will everything fall into pieces as Victoria destroys the circus? As I always say, read the book to find out!

A few helpful things I like to say about the books I read:

“Run and Get Mom” (how I describe the scariness factor – zero being not scary at all and five being majorly scary): 3

“Yucky-Lovey Stuff” (how I describe the romance factor – zero having no yucky-lovey parts in it and five having major yucky-lovey parts): 0

I give this book 5 wands.

It was amazing! It told the story of a circus who had given everything in the world to a boy and now that boy was about to give everything back!
